Share a recipe with friends and family

Send anyone a link to one of your recipes, privately or by publishing it to Discover. People can read it on cookeaseapp.com and save it to their own cookbook for free.

In short

  • On the website, click Share on the recipe card in your Cookbook. In the app, open the recipe, tap the ... button next to Cooking Assistant, then Share.
  • Choose Private Link Only (only people with the link can see it) or Publish to Discover Feed (anyone on CookEase can find, like and save it).
  • Send the link by text, email, WhatsApp or anywhere else. It opens on cookeaseapp.com, or in the CookEase app if they have it.
  • People who are not signed in see the ingredients and nutrition and sign up free to see every step and save it. Saving uses one of their Discover saves.

Every recipe in your cookbook can be shared with a link. Send it to the friend who asked for that dish, the family group chat or whoever is cooking tonight. They can read it in any browser and keep it in their own CookEase cookbook with one tap.

Share a recipe

In your Cookbook, click Share on the recipe's card, or Share at the top of the recipe itself. The Share Recipe window asks How would you like to share this recipe? Pick Private Link Only or Publish to Discover Feed, and the window switches to sharing buttons: Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Email and SMS / Text, plus More for your device's own share menu where the browser supports it. Or click Copy under Or copy link and paste the link anywhere.

Share, Private Link Only, Copy. The link is ready to paste.

Read more about publishing in the Discover feed.

What the people you share with see

The link looks like cookeaseapp.com/share/.... It opens in any browser, and in the CookEase app on phones that have it installed.

A shared recipe opened without an account: the photo with SHARED RECIPE above the title, a Save to cookbook button, like, comment and Share buttons, and the time and nutrition card

Not signed in: the photo, description, nutrition and ingredients are all there.

The ingredients of a shared recipe next to blurred instructions with a See every step box and a Sign up free button

The steps unlock with a free account.

  • Not signed in: they see the photo, description, time, nutrition and full ingredient list. The steps are blurred behind See every step. Sign up free or Save to cookbook takes them to a quick sign-up, and the recipe is saved to their new cookbook as soon as they are in.
  • Signed in: they see the whole recipe, plus Save to cookbook (Save to My Cookbook in the app), a heart to like it, comments and Share to pass it on.

Saving a recipe someone shared with you

Tap Save to cookbook. A copy goes into your cookbook, followed by the usual step to file it in a cookbook. Your copy is yours to edit, and it does not change if the person who shared it edits theirs. If you already have it, CookEase says so and offers to open your copy or save it again.

A shared recipe opened while signed in, with Save to cookbook, the like and comment counts, Share and the note Adds a copy to your personal cookbook

Signed in: Save to cookbook adds a copy to your own cookbook.

Likes and comments on shared recipes, and how to report something, are covered in likes, comments and reporting.

Questions people ask

Do the people I share with need CookEase?

No. The link opens on cookeaseapp.com in any browser. Without an account they see the photo, description, ingredients and nutrition; signing up is free and unlocks every step and the Save to cookbook button. If they have the CookEase app, the link opens there.

What is the difference between a private link and publishing?

A private link can only be opened by people you send it to. Publishing to the Discover feed makes the recipe public: anyone on CookEase can find it on Discover, like it, comment on it and save a copy.

Can I make a published recipe private again?

Yes. Open Share again. On the website, click Change next to Public on Discover and choose Private Link Only. In the app, choose Private Link Only. The recipe leaves the Discover feed; your link keeps working for people you sent it to.

If I edit the recipe after sharing, what do people see?

Anyone opening your link sees the recipe as it is now, with your edits. People who already saved it have their own copy, which does not change.

Does saving a shared recipe use a free save?

For the person saving it, yes: it uses one of their Discover saves (free accounts start with 5, and Pro has no limit). Sharing your own recipes is always free and unlimited.
