Instructions
- 1 In a large Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot, add the diced bell peppers, diced onion, and whole garlic cloves.
- 2 Place the ground beef directly into the pot with the vegetables.
- 3 Cook the mixture over medium-high heat, breaking up the beef with a spoon, for about 8 minutes or until the beef is browned and the vegetables are softened.
- 4 Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the red kidney beans and black beans. Stir well to combine.
- 5 Add your seasonings (chili powder, cumin, oregano, and salt) to the pot. Stir thoroughly to incorporate the spices into the chili base.
- 6 Reduce the heat and let the chili simmer for 45 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
- 7 Once finished, top the chili with a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and fresh sliced jalapeños. Serve warm with a piece of cornbread on the side.
